History connects us in unexpected ways. On June 28, 2026, a deeply moving Special Discussion was held, titled: “Between Java, Suriname, and the Netherlands: A Narrative Exploration of Cultural Displacement and Ancestral Roots.”
The session featured Mr. Jord van Es Moekasan, a curator from Leiden University – Mulih Njawa, as the keynote speaker, who guided participants through the poignant history of Javanese indentured labor, colonial hierarchies, and the lifelong journey of identity reconstruction. The insightful session was expertly moderated by Mr. Ahmad Najib Dato’ Ariffin.
This discussion provided a vital space to reflect on cultural resilience and the enduring ties that bind the Javanese diaspora across Java, Suriname, and the Netherlands. Thank you to CIVITAS, PPKn UNP Kediri, and all collaborators for organizing such a profound narrative exploration.
